diorhaul.jpgPicked up a handful of Dior products while I was in Paris a few weeks ago. I’m a little obsessed with the liners, they’re great, but the mascara has fallen a little short of my expectations.

I’m loving how high end brands are finally keeping up with makeup trends rather than sticking strictly to classics.

The liners are smooth, highly pigmented, and have great staying power. The mascara however goes on this and clumps. It took a fair bit of brushing out with a clean spoolie to get a look I was happy with. Tarantula lashes aren’t for me. The colour payout is good though, so I won’t rate it too poorly.

Sometimes you’ve got to go back to your roots. I am a nerd. Truly, madly, deeply I am. Now that I’ma little older it doesn’t always show up in my day to day wardrobe, but in days past it did. I either looked like Courtney Love in vintage dresses I’d had my mom alter a ‘little too short’ as she’d say, or I looked like Curt Cobain in oversized t-shirts, tatty jeans, and dad jumpers. This look is kind of an homage to my teenage self… this is what my teenage self would have liked to wear had they had the confidence and the budget. I even tried ‘faux freckles’ for the first time to add another layer of youthful fun to the look.

I’ve been struggling with being stylish for the past year. I’m climbing my way out of one of the longest and hardest depressive spells I can remember and it’s been a struggle. The things I really enjoy I just stopped doing, and I do enjoy clothes and styling. My ‘Outfit of the Day’ posts started way back as a way to document the daily looks I pulled, but now, here on the blog they’re more a personal log, to remind myself that I can do it and that I love it, and that sharing that joy with other people is what getting dressed is really about(for me anyway). I hope you’ve been enjoyin

I’ve jumped back in with both feet, but for a lazy Sunday afternoon of lunch with my husband and mother-in-law, a visit to the British Museum, and some errands in the west end I wanted something simple and comfortable, and what’s more comfortable than JEANS AND A TSHIRT? I gave it a little twist and voila!

So if you know me you know I love a bargain! What better place for a bargain than POUNDLAND!

When I first moved to London and was broke all the time I got a LOT of what I needed from my local POUNDLAND; groceries, homewares, cleaning supplies, they had nearly everything I needed… and occasionally things I didn’t but could justify splashing out on because well it’s POUNDLAND!

If you go frequently you can score some amazing finds for cheap. I tend to go looking for brand name makeup and American snackfoods I can’t generally find in the UK.

Last week I visited the two locations in Camden, they’re only a few blocks apart so it’s well worth visiting them both in a single trip.

This time the pay off was MASSIVE! I spent 10£ and got TEN BRAND NAMES MAKEUP ITEMS!

  • 2x Revlon Eyeliners in 06 Aubergine and 07 Aquamarine (RRP £7.99)
  • 2x N.Y.C ‘Showtime Velvet’ Eyeliners in 952 Black Wine and 953 Black Brown (RRP £1.99)
  • 3x TIGI Lipsticks in Happiness, Splendour, and Beauty (RRP £7.99)
  • 1x Rimmel ‘Stay Blushed’ Liquid Cheek Tint in 003 Peach Flush (RRP £3)
  • 1x Rimmel ‘Royal Blush’ Cream Blush in 002 Majestic Pink (RRP £3)
  • 1x Rimmel ‘Good to Glow’ Highlighter in 001 Notting Hill Glow (RRP £3)

So I’m obsessed with the lipsticks. Their absolutely stunning on their own as a glittery semi-sheer lip tint or on top of another colour to give a shimmery 90s vibe.

The blushers are really nice. They’re super smooth and creamy. I’d never used cream blusher before so this was a great chance to give it a try without spending much money!

The eyeliners are super glam and creamy, I have a soft spot for NYC makeup because it was what I could afford and wore as a teenager.

The Highlighter is actually amazing. I struggled to find a highlight the RIGHT colour. I’m really pale, and most highlighters are either too pink or too gold, a friend recently let me in on a pale girl secret; BLUE TONES. It changed my life tbh. I’ve been mixing a blue cream eyeshadow one of my too pink highlighters to achieve the desired effect… but now I have the perfect shade pre-mixed!

This isn’t the first time I’ve scored great finds, in the past I’ve found makeup from Models Own, Calvin Klein, Sally Hansen, and more! I really cant recommend POUNDLAND enough. Sometimes, to be honest, you won’t find a single thing, and other times you’ll leave with arms loaded with treasures! For me it’s all about the thrill of the hunt and fining a real bargain!

I love bright colours and loud prints, but I also love simple black, good tailoring and classic accessories, and these loves aren’t hard to reconcile.

I love to coordinate and to clash, and this outfit sums up my attitudes towards fashion; you should wear what you want, how you want, as long as it makes you feel good.
